About the Indian School of Self Realisation

The Indian School of Self Realisation (ISSR) is a sanctuary for ancient wisdom reinterpreted for the modern world. It is focused on a seekers direct realisation through consciousness, not sectarian worship.

It is a sacred initiative dedicated to guiding seekers on the timeless path of Atma-Jnana — Self-Knowledge — through a structured yet experiential curriculum rooted in the ancient Vedic sciences.

Drawing upon the Rig, Sama, Yajur, and Atharva Vedas, the school bridges the wisdom of classical Hatha Yoga, Ayurveda, Mantra Sadhana, and subtle energy systems with modern consciousness studies and quantum sciences that affirm the unity of observer and observed.

ISSR offers a transformative seven-module program that enables participants to move from intellectual understanding to direct experiential realisation of their essential Self! Tat Tvam Asi ('That' 'Thou' 'I AM'). The program cultivates awareness, discipline, and balance across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual planes, preparing each student for sustained self-practice and an integrated, harmonious life.

This approach is to guide seekers towards their own re-identification as the ONE universal consciousness through an embodied awareness beyond this limited perception of life as it seems, in harmony and healing, from one's own extended manifestation of this temple of realisation - beyond body, breath and mind.

Our Philosophy

ISSR recognises Self-Realisation not as a belief or attainment, but as the unveiling of one’s inherent wholeness. The curriculum honours the sacred interdependence between body (Sharira), mind (Manas), and consciousness (Atman). Each practice — be it asana, pranayama, mantra, meditation, or Ayurvedic lifestyle alignment — becomes a step toward restoring that innate unity.

Rooted in the principle of Sanatana Dharma, our teachings celebrate universality: that every seeker, regardless of background, can awaken to the divine within. In modern terms, this is the alignment of inner vibration with the universal field of consciousness that quantum physics now affirms as the substratum of all existence.

Our Vision

To be a global sanctuary for seekers — a bridge between ancient Vedic wisdom and contemporary human experience — where learning leads not to accumulation of knowledge but to the flowering of consciousness itself.

ISSR envisions a world where self-realised individuals become living embodiments of peace, compassion, and awareness, transforming not only themselves but their communities.

Self Realisation Pathway

The ISSR curriculum is adapted from the ancient science of the Vedas, recognised for tens of thousands of years as an indisputable and living pathway to direct experience of universal consciousness. These timeless teachings provide the philosophical and spiritual scaffolding for the seeker’s journey, revealing how the Self is inherently one with the Universal.

ISSR’s seven-module pathway unfolds progressively:

1. Awakening the Awareness of Self – Foundations of yoga, consciousness, and the Vedic worldview.

2. Purification of Body and Mind – Classical Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, breath discipline, and Ayurvedic cleansing principles.

3. Mantra and Sound Consciousness – Understanding vibrational realignment and energy harmonisation through chanting and silence.

4. Pranic Energy and Chakric Integration through conscious self affirmations and powerful Mool Mantra chanting – Invoking the kundalini!

5. Meditative Stability and Mind Mastery – Dharana, Dhyana and stilling the fluctuations of mind reflections through deep guided meditations.

6. Integration through Daily Living – Applying yogic wisdom to relationships, work and service.

7. Self-Realisation and Beyond – Dissolution of duality and abiding in the awareness of Oneness.

Each module includes hands-on practice, reflection discussions through guided self inquiry and guided meditation.

The Gayatri Mantra, Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and various other Maha mantras will also be rendered for global alignment to invoke cosmic energies within the self such as those bestowed by Maa Laxmi for abundance, Saraswati for knowledge, Shakti for power, and those invoking divine realms of protection, success, and fearlessness with chantings of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesha. These practices are designed to raise body consciousness, vitality and inner clarity.

Transformation beyond Certifications

Achieving transformation beyond certifications, the ISSR journey awakens direct experience of universal consciousness - helping participants dissolve conflict, discover balance, and live in alignment. Drawing from the principles of samyama, ikigai, kintsugi, wu wei, ubuntu, and ahimsa, the curriculum embodies a cross-cultural tapestry of stillness, purpose and compassion.

The teachings are inspired by masters across ages - Adi Shankaracharya, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Mahavatar Babaji, Ramana Maharshi, Osho Rajneesh and Nisargadatta Maharaj - all of whom echo the same timeless truth of self-realisation. ISSR honours these lineages not as philosophies to be believed, but as living practices to be directly experienced.

At the heart of ISSR lies the founder’s own inner pilgrimage. Through years of spiritual exploration and meditative discipline, the founder shares insights through the living grace of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and astral guidance by Shri Mahavatar Babaji, the immortal Guru of Lahiri Mahasaya, Paramahamsa Yogananda and Ramana Maharishi.

These experiences form the luminous substratum of ISSR, validating that the divine guidance of realised Masters continues to reach each of us who are blessed to be on this journey to our higher Self.

Ayurveda and the Science of Alignment

Complementing the yogic and meditative teachings, ISSR integrates the Ayurvedic science of life and balance. Students learn to align with their natural constitution (prakriti) through awareness of their doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha—and to nourish the body as a sacred vessel of consciousness.

ISSR also emphasises the profound energetic connection between the human body, the sun, and the earth. Practices of solar attunement, grounding, and breath discipline help participants reawaken their inner luminosity—experiencing firsthand how the rhythms of nature mirror the radiance of the Self. Through such alignment, seekers discover that light is not merely external but the essence of their being—Atman shining as Surya within.

Vedic Roots

The foundations of ISSR lie in Advaita Vedanta, the non-dual understanding that the Self and the Universal are one. The Vedas, dating back tens of thousands of years, are the most ancient spiritual revelations known to humankind—predating and surpassing the earliest European philosophical inquiries.

Eternal and authorless (apaurusheya), these sacred hymns emerged from direct states of divine realisation and continue to illuminate the inner path of truth. It is said that even Christ and Buddha journeyed to India to experience this wisdom firsthand, recognising that all true liberation arises from within. Their insights, like those of the Vedic seers, affirm the eternal call of Tat Tvam Asi—'That' 'Thou' 'I AM'

About the Founder

About the Founder

The Founder

Like all of us, the Founder, Gaurav, is also constantly rediscovering the layers of ignorance that hide his true self from himself. Since 1990 when in his first direct experience through a series of unexplained spiritual occurrences, he finally awakened to a truth beyond the ordinary confines of the physical elements that we experience every day.  These experiences convinced him that there was certainly a higher power present in all of us.

We are all indeed a reflection of the divine force that powers our experience of consciousness and this physical manifestation.

Each one of us can experience ourselves as an entity beyond the ordinary perception we have of ourselves.  It is a unique direct personal insight that each one of us can have, to know ourselves as the beginning and end of everything that is!  It is a place of deep silence, a knowing and not knowing both together, beyond the duality of existence and non-existence.

The founder leads his life as a fellow traveller in Melbourne, Australia. He holds space for traditional Ashtanga Yoga classes and contemplation sessions to dive into one's deepest silence where one can arrive into a direct experience of their innate spiritual consciousness.

The founder is supported by his earthly partner Rita, whose spiritual journey started when she was in her earliest years before kindergarden and primary school, when she would keep putting her palms together in Namaskar in front of all temples wherever she went . Her own journey into self realisation pivoted when her father passed during the pandemic. The quest for life's deepest answers led her to become a Yoga instructor in March 2024, which also made her realise her own divine feminine and masculine energies as she re-discovered her true self.
Rita offers women's Ashtanga Yoga and Meditation classes to empower women and invoke the divine shakti within each of us.
